Spirited Away

Of course you watched this cartoon. Because it is amazing.

Personally I had no idea that the Town in Spirited Away is actually based on a real town in Taiwan, East of Taipei, called Jiufen 九份.

The weather in October is a disgrace, so I did not manage to take some bright and sunny pictures of the place. In fact, the market and narrow streets are overcrowded by Taiwanese and Japanese tourists. But the town deserves it.

I guess, among the locals, this place s much more popular because it was the setting for a famous Hsiao-Hsien Hou’s film, but general Western audience knows it as the haunted town from Spirited Away.
